3 Questions You MUST Ask When Shopping At The End Of Summer

image

It’s August and I’m just days away from being able to start my “One Month Countdown” ‘till I leave for my trip! I’m getting really excited and antsy which means that the pesky travel bug is attacking me in full force. I’ve been dying to get away and have a bit of adventure so, I decided to head to the Bay Area this weekend. The change of scenery will tie me over till I leave. That’s one of the wonderful things about living in Sacramento, you’re right in the middle of everything; the ocean, city, desert, lakes and mountains. It’s all right at your fingertips just waiting for you to enjoy it, so that’s what I’m doing. I also get to indulge on my adventures at a whole new level because my new camera just arrived!! I’m so excited to start using it *insert dancing lady emoji*

On to the outfit…

Now that it’s August, it’s time to set my sights on pieces that I can wear in the summer heat and will also transition fabulously into cooler temperatures. The late summer sales are happening right now and will be great as the Autumn season approaches. I wanted to share how to be strategic while browsing the racks of clothes or shopping online during this time of year. I normally wouldn’t purchase shorts this late into the summer season, but since they’re a neutral color and a suede material they passed the 3 questions that I MUST ask myself when shopping at the end of summer, so I decided to buy them. When I’m buying anything this time of year, I want to make sure it’s something that I’m going to get more than a few weeks of wear out of. I feel that I can wear my suede shorts in the summer with pretty much anything– sandals, wedges, tennis shoes, breezy tops, or tees. When the weather starts to cool off a bit, I can style the shorts with an ankle boot and a leather jacket and call it a day. Here are 3 questions that you must ask yourself when shopping at the end of summer:

Can It Be Styled For Autumn?

I already went over this question, but it’s a really important one that I ask myself. A lot of summer colors and materials just don’t work with the style and feel of Autumn, so unless you’re living in San Diego, you’re not going to be wearing cut off shorts or strappy tops in October. Yes, that top is majorly on sale, but is the fabric going to pass the test of keeping that breeze a bay in another couple months? Anything that I buy during this time of year will fall into the neutral category– white, black, grey, and navy. I know that these colors are guaranteed to look great in the summer, as well as, carry me into Autumn.

Can I Layer It?

If the material is too thin to stand alone in cooler weather, I ask myself if the item can be layered. If I’m looking at a dress or skirt, I have to ask myself if it will look good layered with jackets and boots for Autumn. My mind instantly goes to a piece like the “slip dress” that can be worn alone, but also looks fabulous layered over a tee shirt or long sleeves. If it can’t be layered in any way, then I will pass it up. I’d rather save those dollars and put it towards something fabulous that I can wear all through Autumn and Winter!

Will I Want To Wear It Next Summer?

If you answered “no” to the first two questions and you are still shedding tears at the thought of parting from whatever item you can’t take your eyes off, then this is the question that I ask myself. Do I love it enough to wear it again a year from now? There are always new trends and styles coming through stores and even my own personal taste can change from year to year, is this something that will still be cute to me?

I hope that these 3 questions you must ask when shopping at the end of summer help you in choosing what pieces are worth purchasing and what things are better left behind.

Thanks for reading! Are there any other tips that you find helpful when you’re shopping during this transition season? I always love hearing from you.

All great points and tips! Living in the deep south, we stay pretty much hot here until about mid November, but I follow your same thought process about what to buy once July is over! It’s gotta be able to transition over for at least a month for me to buy it!

All good points to think about when shopping for fall. At least if you buy shorts, you can still wear them the following summer especially if they’re on sale. Love this casual look on you. So cute and comfortable. Great post babe! Xoxo

Yes, there’s definitely a bit more wiggle room when it comes to shorts (and jeans) since there’s not much change from season to season. You’d definitely be lucky if you found a nice pair on sale!

I love this post! I was shopping over the weekend and I found myself picking up so many summer items. When I went to check out, I was like WHAT AM I DOING?! I am not going to be wearing these in a few months, and who knows if I will even want them next summer. I have to start looking ahead and this post totally reinforced this for me. Totally enjoyed it!
