It’s time to explore New York City this week for the summer travel series!
Believe it or not, New York City is a place I haven’t had a chance to travel to yet. I dream of flying to this beautiful city and exploring it someday (very) soon and experiencing all it has to offer. I’m really excited to have Hannah Rheaume on the blog to share all of her NY faves with us. Hannah is always inspiring me with her adventures that take her all over the world! She’s been everywhere from Bali, Cuba, Australia, Malta, and the list goes on… and on. Everywhere she goes, she always brings her gorgeous smile and warm beautiful energy that just shines through every photo she takes. Her travels have made my personal “Must Visit” list quite long and I can’t wait to add more from this post.
Lets explore New York City with her!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your blog?
I am a 25-year-old publicist turned travel blogger. I’m based in Maine which, as you can imagine, is not the biggest hub for travel, but I make it work! My travel blog, The Sunny Side of Things, is really meant to be a source of inspiration for my readers by sharing new perspectives of destinations all over the world.
You’ve traveled all over the world, what makes NYC one of your favorite places to visit?
I love New York City because you never know what to expect. My favorite continent is Asia for this exact reason. In New York you turn the corner and you hear a handful of different languages, can grab a number of different types of food all while finding a sense of familiarity- if that’s what you’re looking for. New York is really whatever you want it to be.
Your Instagram feed is always so beautiful and full of amazing places, what are some ways that travel inspires you?
Aw, thank you! For me the act of travel is what inspires me. I am constantly researching new places and destinations. I crave that sense of otherness which keeps me on my toes always wanting to know more, see more, and be more.
Have you ever been anywhere that turned out to be really different to how you imagined?
YES! Los Angeles was it for me. Having never been before my trip in May I didn’t know what to expect. What I can tell you is that it is a lot less glamorous than what you see on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Ha!
I know you recently did a post on your favorite photo walls in LA, do you have any faves in NYC?
Yes! Here are a couple of my favorites! I’m all about the color.
87 Rivington Street, NY, NY 1002
240 Lafayette Street, NY, NY
64 Macdougal Street NY, NY
30 Prince Street, NY, NY
51 York Street, Brooklyn, NY
I’m all about the food scene in a new city, where are your favorite spots to taste what the city has to offer?
My NYC go to is the Urbanspace! What I love? The vendors are constantly changing but you can always enjoy cuisine from around the world crafted by people who know what they’re doing! Plus, it’s Instagram worthy! Rosa Mexicana is another favorite of mine. When you go, you must order the guac! It’s made fresh right in front of you. Pizza Beach needs no introduction. For a sweet treat, go to Ice & Vice and try their sundae pie fries!
Are there any hidden gems that you’ve discovered during your trips there?
If you love experiencing the laid back side of places, head over to DUMBO- this is where you’ll find countless murals, foodie spots and great views of the city. Start by walking over the Brooklyn Bridge and make your way to the DUMBO area. I’m always surprised when I turn the corners in New York– everything is a surprise. That is my biggest recommendation when you’re there. Just walk around with no true end point. That’s when you’ll discover the real New York. Your New York.
Where are the best areas and places to stay in NYC to catch some shut eye?
Honestly, that depends on which part of the city you want to base yourself! I like to be central but not in Time Square which is why Life Hotel was the perfect spot! You can read about my stay here
Most importantly, what do we need to pack for a summer adventure to New York City?
Well I can tell you is that you won’t need a jacket! New York is so hot during the summer, you’re lucky if you get a light breeze. Pack sneakers, breezy dresses, and linen two piece sets. I’m a big fan of two piece sets because they are so versatile! For a night out you’ll need a comfortable, yet stylish pair of heels.
Where should we go to find you and stay connected?
I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring New York City this week with Hannah Rheaume!
